Carved Lacquerware ¨C one of the ¡°top four actresses¡± in the industrial arts in Beijing.The carved lacquerware art has a long historical standing. It is a splendid culture created by Chinese people in their long-term productive activities. As recorded in relevant documents, the red lacquer bowls unearthed in Hemudu, Yuyao, Zhejiang province are still gently lustrous despite of a history of more than 6000 years, indicating how extensive and profound the lacquer art is. The carved lacquerware art represents the peak of lacquer art¡¯s development for thousands of years. Beijing carved lacquerware started in Tang Dynasty, rose in Song and Yuan Dynasties, and thrived in Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is a perfect combination of the fine features of lacquer and the ancient and exquisite carving skill. Carved lacquerware products are simply and decently shaped, calmly colored, and finely decorated. The whole process consists of multiple production procedures such as design, base making, painting, drawing, carving, drying, polishing, and enchasing. Being time and cost consuming, they used to be artwork in imperial palace and noble houses and were rarely known by common people. As oriental treasure and artistic essence uniquely seen in China, they are of extremely high artistic value, and are treasured up in the Imperial Palace Museum and other large museums. | ||
